On Monday 16th July 2018 all Year 10 Art students attended the National Portrait Gallery.
In the lecture theatre, they were able to critically engage with a discussion around the concepts and expressions behind a range of self portraits that dated from as far back as the Tudor period.
The students visited the collections of art from the First World War and contemporary artworks from 1960s Britain to the present day. This was followed by a visit to the BP Portrait Awards Exhibition, an annual portraiture competition hosted by the gallery. They were able to see works that were presented in the lecture theatre for themselves inside the galleries, and explored questions that helped them to connect with the pieces and think about their upcoming project on self portraiture.
