Ark Elvin team come 10th nationally in the Deloitte Better Futures Month!

Thursday 23 June 2022

On Tuesday 17th May, a team of six Year 10 students from Ark Elvin Academy took part in the Deloitte Better Futures Month. Their idea – to create a team of ‘Ark Elvin Helpers’ – so impressed the judges, that they secured 10th place nationally on the secondary school leader board.

Presenting to volunteers from Deloitte and Debate Mate, students were asked to pitch their ideas for transforming their local area, innovating technology for good and helping their local environment. The chance to participate was offered to members of the school Debate Mate club, and a group of innovative year 10 students took up the challenge.

Using skills honed through debating, the group used their teamwork, research and organisation capabilities to develop their ‘Ark Elvin Helpers’ pitch. Their idea being that a team of volunteers would work together to support the school and community, doing things like cleaning up the local environment and supporting in the canteen. Students also explored how to develop the ‘Ark Elvin Helpers’ brand; researching into a branded uniform for the volunteers.

It was fantastic to see the students present their idea to the judges; using the communication skills they have developed through debating, and being brilliant ambassadors for Ark Elvin Academy! We are delighted to see their hard work recognised by the students being placed 10th nationally in the secondary school category.
