The Marvellous Musical performances of 'We Will Rock You' at Elvin

Tuesday 16 July 2019

On Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd of July, we held our summer musical of We Will Rock You which allowed pupils from all years to participate in our final performing arts enrichment of the year.

The jukebox musical exists predominately as a framework allowing the cast to perform covers of Queen's greatest hits. The story takes place in the distant future, Earth's name has been changed to Planet Mall where everyone wears the same clothes, thinks the same thoughts and goes about in a brain-dead haze. Musical instruments and composers are forbidden, and rock music is all but unknown. However, a small group of "Bohemians" struggles to restore the free exchange of thought, fashion, and (most of all) live music. With the help of Pop, an ancient hippie librarian, two Bohemians, Galileo and Scaramouche, find Rock's Holy Grail, Brian May's guitar buried in the remains of Wembley Stadium.

The cast have been rehearsing throughout the spring and summer term to display a fantastic performance to a warm audience. Taking us through hit Queen songs such as; Under pressure, I want to break free, Somebody to love, Don’t stop me now, Hammer to fall, the show’s title song of We will rock you, and not forgetting Bohemian Rhapsody to name but a few!

Pupils were able to explore all aspects of the production, such as performance skills of dancing, singing and acting at the same time as well as backstage roles including lighting, sound, set design, costume design, making their own props, and stage management allow pupils to gain an insight of different careers the performing arts sector can offer.

Well done to everyone who was involved!
