The Year 7 trip to watch a performance of 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre

Monday 11 October 2021

On Thursday 7th October, students in year 7 visited Shakespeare’s Globe to see a performance of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. This was a fantastic opportunity to see the play performed live ahead of students studying it in the Spring term.

The play tells the story of two sets of young lovers caught in a dispute between the Fairy Queen and King, as well as the story of a group of want-to-be actors as they prepare for a special performance. Set in a magical forest, the play has plenty of comedic moments and students enjoyed seeing them brought to life in an explosion of colour, glitter and music.

Alongside watching the play, pupils were also excited to see the theatre itself, which is a reconstruction of the original. Having learnt about it in lessons prior to the visit, students were delighted to experience the theatre for themselves and, given that the theatre is open-air, they were thankful that the day was mild with no rain!

Having travelled to the theatre by tube, students were also able to take in many of the sights along Southbank including the Shard, St Paul’s Cathedral and Borough Market.

All in all, it was a brilliant day of experiences for our new year 7s, and students are now looking forward to studying ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ with their teachers after Christmas.
