Year 9s visit the Royal Academy of Art for three exhibitions
The Year 9s attended the Royal Academy of Arts to see three exhibitions. The first exhibition they saw was the 250th Summer Show curated by Grayson Perry. It is an annual celebration of art made by people today, including world-renowned artists and new talents. It displayed all kinds of pieces, including: miniature paintings; giant sculptures; detailed architectural models and photorealistic drawings. There were many thought-provoking, humorous works, enabling the pupils to engage critically with a variety of themes.
The second exhibition that pupils visited showed the work of Tacita Dean specifically her black and white landscapes. Her work contrast with the work that was in the Summer Exhibition. Pupils appreciated the scale of her paintings and the simplicity of her minimalist style.
Finally pupils visited the 'The Great Spectacle' Exhibition which delved into the history of the Royal Academy of Arts annual Summer Exhibition.
Through out trip pupils were acknowledged for representing the community of Ark Elvin Academy by being sensible in the gallery and respectful of the pupil and the spaces that they were in.
