The Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Qualifying Expedition
Report from Year 10 student - Prinali
Duke of Edinburgh is an amazing opportunity to experience the exciting adventures of life and the outdoors with your friends. Our group finished both days of our Bronze Qualifying Expedition successfully with joy and laughter.
On Day 1, we started from the Tring Train Station and walked for 6 hours in the countryside, through footpaths and roads to reach each checkpoint. Whilst walking we would take breaks, eat snacks, talk, and take pictures of what we saw. The highlight of the first day was when our group was chased by cows!
When we reached the campsite, we set up our tents and started cooking our dinner of rice and fried chicken. After we cleaned everything we all were just chilling and enjoying the atmosphere. We had a lot of down time after dinner to just hangout with members from the other groups, which was really nice. We had to wake up at 7 the next morning, so we went to bed a bit before midnight.
The next morning, we woke up early to cook pancakes, drink hot chocolate, put away our tents, and pack up our rucksacks. It is important to have snacks with you to ensure you’re full of energy throughout the day, in addition to having a decent breakfast.
When we checked in with our assessor, we left camp at 8 to go back to the train station. It was a tiring journey but it was really worth it, especially seeing the views and different animals – horses, sheep, and LLAMAS.
Overall, DofE builds your confidence and character. It makes you work together as a team, and you learn a lot about yourself and your friends. It is a fun opportunity, but it requires a lot of hard work, responsibility and determination.
