Remembrance Day ceremony held to honour those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice

On Monday 11th the Elvin community brought a close to our week of remembrance with our flag rising ceremony to honour those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we have today.

During the week students had the opportunity to explore the purpose of remembrance in assemblies, learning about the soldier Harry Cook who, although being blinded during the First World War, overcame significant barriers to achieve his dream of being part of an F.A Cup final at Wembley.

Each form group also created a ‘poppy’ with their collective ideas on who they will be thinking of during this time of national memorial. The week culminated in Ark Elvin’s second memorial ceremony, in which representatives from the school council Mohammad Islam, Anshul Shah, Eltayib Hassan, President Mamadou Diallo and Vice President Shamim Malik laid wreaths at the school flag. The entire school then observed an impeccable minute’s silence, taking time to remember those who have been, and those who still are, affected by conflict.

The ceremony is available to see on this Youtube link: https://youtu.be/0dIW7EaN0mw
