Every year at Ark Elvin Academy, we celebrate Black History Month and this year is no different. In the month of October, we will once again be raising our flag to proudly show our commitment to celebrating Black history. The theme for this year is 'standing firm in power and pride', and we will be celebrating the leaders, activists and pioneers in the Black community, specifically focusing on some of the British Black icons such as Stormzy, Raheem Sterling and Mary Seacole ( see below). We will be celebrating with special food in our canteen, form time content on Black History Month, special assemblies and trips to the Tate Modern and Museum of London Docklands, where students will specifically look at artefacts through the lens of Black history. Additionally for parents and students in the local community, there is an event to celebrate Black History Month hosted by Brent Council on the evening of 22 October which promises to be a great evening.
