Why do we learn physical education?
Physical Education is taught at Ark Elvin Academy as a basis for lifelong learning, where pupils have the opportunity to learn and master a wide range of sports in order to continue to be healthy by having a physically active life within and beyond their school life. Having a high-quality physical education curriculum provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident which supports their physical, social and mental well-being. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as community, courage, integrity and mastery.

Our approach
At Ark Elvin, we strive to ensure pupils receive regular exercse through our physical education curriculum and through our extensive enrichment program. We offer over 25 sporting enrichment clubs before, during and after school so that our pupils can learn and master their skills within a wide range of sports. We organise multiple weekly sporting fixtures within the Brent, Ark and regional competitions.
Within Physical Education lessons, all pupils in key stage 3 take part in 2 lessons of high-quality lessons and 1 lesson within KS4. Lessons are designed to improve gross and fine motor skills, fitness and strength. Units across the year and across the school develop:
-
Use a range of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition through team and individual games
-
Develop pupils’ technique and improve their performance in a broad range of competitive sports
-
Develop key skills such as teamwork, communication, resilience, problem solving and leadership through sport
-
Analyse performances compared to previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best
-
Take part in competitive sports and activities outside school through community links or sports clubs.
